Animal Welfare & Safety Policy

Last Updated: [04/15/2025]

At Blue Oasis Life, we believe in the healing power of connection—with nature, ourselves, and the animal world. Our animal-assisted wellness programs and farm experiences are rooted in mutual respect, care, and the highest standards of ethical animal welfare.

This policy outlines how we protect the well-being of our animals and ensure a safe and meaningful experience for all visitors.

1. Our Commitment to Animal Welfare

We are dedicated to the ethical treatment, care, and enrichment of all animals who call Blue Oasis home, including our goats, horses, and other therapy animals. Our core principles include:

  • Respect: Animals are sentient beings and active partners in healing—not tools or entertainment.

  • Freedom from harm: All animals in our care are treated with kindness, free from fear, pain, or unnecessary stress.

  • Consent-based interaction: Animal involvement in therapy is voluntary. If an animal shows signs of stress, discomfort, or fatigue, they are given space and rest.

  • Enrichment & autonomy: Animals have access to proper nutrition, clean water, natural environments, social interaction, and regular veterinary care.

2. Types of Animal-Involved Experiences

We offer several programs that incorporate animal interaction, including:

  • Heart Coherence & Grounding with goats and horses

  • Adventure-Based Therapy and equine-assisted activities

  • Mindfulness with Animals: guided meditations, observation, and connection

  • Farm Tours & Educational Sessions: learning about holistic animal care and sustainable farming

3. Safety Guidelines for Guests

To ensure a safe and positive experience for both animals and participants, we ask all guests to follow these guidelines:

✅ Do:

  • Approach animals calmly and respectfully.

  • Follow the instructions of our facilitators and animal handlers at all times.

  • Wash hands before and after interaction, especially before eating or drinking.

  • Wear appropriate, closed-toe footwear when entering animal areas.

  • Supervise children at all times and ensure they understand how to interact gently.

❌ Do Not:

  • Chase, tease, grab, or restrain animals.

  • Feed animals without explicit permission and supervision.

  • Enter animal enclosures or restricted areas without a guide.

  • Use loud voices, sudden movements, or flash photography near animals.

Guests who do not follow safety instructions may be asked to leave the session or retreat for the well-being of the animals and others.

4. Animal Health & Veterinary Care

  • All animals at Blue Oasis receive routine veterinary checkups, vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatments.

  • A documented care plan is maintained for each animal, including diet, behavioral monitoring, and rest schedules.

  • In the case of illness or injury, the animal is removed from guest-facing activities and cared for in a quiet recovery space.

5. Staff Training & Oversight

  • All facilitators involved in animal-assisted therapy are trained in animal behavior, non-verbal cues, and safety practices.

  • Dedicated caregivers manage the daily care and well-being of the animals.

  • Our animal programs are supervised by professionals with backgrounds in equine therapy, veterinary science, or animal behavior, ensuring best practices are followed at all times.

6. Ethical Philosophy & Animal Rights

We operate under the principle that animals are partners in healing, not performers. Therefore:

  • No animals are forced to participate in any program.

  • We do not support or engage in practices that involve confinement, punishment, or overuse.

  • Our approach prioritizes mutual benefit and ethical stewardship.

7. Emergency Procedures

In the rare case of an emergency involving animals or guests:

  • Staff are trained in basic first aid for both humans and animals.

  • A vet-on-call is available for urgent animal health concerns.

  • Emergency exits and medical kits are located in all activity areas.

  • An incident report will be filed, and appropriate care or follow-up will be provided immediately.

8. Allergies, Phobias & Special Considerations

  • If you have allergies, fears, or sensitivities to animals, please inform us before your visit or session.

  • We will work with you to offer alternative activities or safe observation zones.

  • Our staff will provide guidance on avoiding triggers while still enjoying your retreat experience.

9. Visiting with Children

Children are welcome to experience the magic of animal connection under the following conditions:

  • They must be accompanied and supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.

  • Parents are responsible for ensuring that children follow animal safety rules.

  • Children must be able to remain calm and gentle during interactions.

We offer kid-friendly wellness sessions that introduce children to mindful animal connection in a safe and engaging way.

10. Feedback & Reporting

We take animal welfare seriously. If you observe something concerning, or if you’d like to share feedback about an experience, please contact us directly.

In Gratitude

We are deeply grateful for the animals who help create a space of healing, grounding, and connection at Blue Oasis. By engaging with them mindfully and ethically, we co-create a compassionate retreat environment where all beings—human and animal—can thrive.
